But these laws are were not present before 400 years back. Depending upon the political situation or social conditions, there were rules for the marriage was defined by the local chieftains. As per the Vedic Astrology, the 7th house defines your life partner @ any one, who maintain mental ties (love affair) or physical relationship (sexual affair) or both with anyone from the opposite sex comes under this category.
But the Vedic Astrology are very much in place from the Vedic days @ more than 5000 years back. That is, mutual understanding between a man and a woman on physical relationships or mental relationships or both are considered as the Couples. Those days, the Marriages were classified into 8 categories. Even today, the below mentioned Marriage concepts are very well alive and kicking.
The Types of Marriages:
1. Brahmam (Balya Vivaha Marriage): The Marriage between a full grown male and the girl child, who doesn't attain even puberty. These type of Marriages are considered as illegal. But we see this kind of activities taking place even in the 21st century.
2. Prasapathiyam: The Marriage between a boy and girl initiated by the parents and elders from both the side and conducted with complete consent of both the family, relatives and the society. Now a days, these types of Marriages are called as "Arranged Marriage".
3. Aridam: Prasapathiyam Marriage (arranged marriage) conducted between a boy and girl, when the girl was given to the Boy with Gold and Cow. In today's world, these types of Marriages are considered as "Dowry Marriage".
4. Theivam: These types of Marriages were similar to the Aridam type of Marriage. Here the Marriage is conducted between the Boy, only after he becomes a Vedic Scholar. That is, if the girl were offered with Gold and Cow to a Vedic Scholar, then their Marriage is classified as "Theivam". These type of Marriages are very rare now.
5. Khandarvam: The Marriage between the Boy and Girl, who maintain sexual relationship between them even before the completion of Marriage is called as the "Khandarva Vivaham". Sometimes, these types of Marriages are conducted under the compelling reasons or situations.
6. Aaharam: If a Boy accept any type of challenges to marry a girl and win the challenges, then their Marriage is classified as "Aaharam".
7. Raghkatham: If a Girl is forced or compelled or threatened or kidnapped to get married to a Boy, then the Marriage is classified as "Raghkatham". That is, if a marriage is taking place without the consent of their parents, also comes under this category.
8. Paisasam: If a man is married to a woman, who is older than himself or if a Man marries a woman who lives dubious lifestyle or vice versa, then their Marriage is classified under "Paisasam".
1. The 7th house indicates your life partner, who can come along with you either for shorter period or remain with you during entire lifetime.
2. The Life Partner could enter your life either legally or illegally.
3. The 7th house indicates both the mental relationship and the physical relationship.
4. The 7th house indicates your love affair or sexual affair at a pre-marriage level.
5. The 7th house indicates your physical and mental ties with your life partner at your post-marriage level.
Now let us see the importance of the 7th house:
1. If 7th house lord is present in the 2nd house or if there is a "Parivartana Yoga" (interchange of houses) between the 2nd & 7th house lord or if there is any association of the 2nd house lord with 7th house lord, then the native will get married within their family (or) get married with the help of family members. Mainly, they choose their partner either due to family concerns (or) for economical reasons.
2. If 7th house lord is present in the 1st house or if there is a "Parivartana Yoga" (interchange of houses) between the 1st & 7th house lord or if there is any association of the 1st house lord with 7th house lord, then the native will remain dominant (or) subservient to their life partner.
3. If 7th house lord is present in the 3rd house or if there is a "Parivartana Yoga" (interchange of houses) between the 3rd & 7th house lord or if there is any association of the 3rd house lord with 7th house lord, then the native will choose their partner through their friendship (or) choose their partner to enhance their status (or) would end up choosing their partner out of emotions/beliefs.
4. If 7th house lord is present in the 4th house or if there is a "Parivartana Yoga" (interchange of houses) between the 4th & 7th house lord or if there is any association of the 4th house lord with 7th house lord, then the native will choose their partner to make their life comfortable (or) to enhance their lifestyle.
5. If 7th house lord is present in the 5th house or if there is a "Parivartana Yoga" (interchange of houses) between the 5th & 7th house lord or if there is any association of the 5th house lord with 7th house lord, , then the native will give guidance and also get guidance from their life partner @ they rely heavily on their life partner for moral or tactical support. This planetary position can be attributed to the belief that "Marriages are made in heaven".

If 7th house lord is present in the 6th house or if there is a "Parivartana Yoga" (interchange of houses) between the 6th & 7th house lord or if there is any association of the 6th house lord with 7th house lord, then the native will have a Partner who is sick (or) a Partner who are mired lot of disputes. Either the native (or) their partner (or) both will make the other's life as hell.
7. If the 7th house lord is present in the 7th house itself, the results are likely to vary due to various astrological factors (we will study it separately). If the 7th house lord is associated with many planets or if there exists many planets in the 7th house, then the natives will either dominant over their partner (or) allow their partner to supercede them.
8. If 7th house lord is present in the 8th house or if there is a "Parivartana Yoga" (interchange of houses) between the 8th & 7th house lord or if there is any association of the 8th house lord with 7th house lord, , then the native will remain separated or isolated from their life partner either for a shorter period of time or for longer period of time. Any one of them (or) both will bring chaos (or) failures into their married life. This planetary position can be attributed to the belief that "Marriages are made in hell".
9. If 7th house lord is present in the 9th house or if there is a "Parivartana Yoga" (interchange of houses) between the 9th & 7th house lord or if there is any association of the 9th house lord with 7th house lord, then the native will find their life partner integrating themselves with their partner's family members and their relatives in an excellent manner. This Planetary position will bring blessings in the married life of the native.
10. If 7th house lord is present in the 10th house or if there is a "Parivartana Yoga" (interchange of houses) between the 10th & 7th house lord or if there is any association of the 10th house lord with 7th house lord, then the native will develop a relationship at their workplace (or) the Couple will work in tandem to run their lives.
11. If 7th house lord is present in the 11th house or if there is a "Parivartana Yoga" (interchange of houses) between the 11th & 7th house lord or if there is any association of the 11th house lord with 7th house lord, then the native will choose their partner out of monetary consideration (or) on the basis of gains accured through their partnership. The native may be ready to have more than one partnership in their life.
12. If 7th house lord is present in the 12th house or if there is a "Parivartana Yoga" (interchange of houses) between the 12th & 7th house lord or if there is any association of the 12th house lord with 7th house lord, , then the native will create losses/setbacks to their partner (or) their partner will create losses/setbacks in the native's life. In some cases, the native may lose the partner itself.
